Metric Spaces in which All Triangles Are Degenerate Bettina

چکیده
In any subspace of the real line R with the usual Euclidean metric d(x, y) = |x− y|, every triangle is degenerate. In R or R with the usual Euclidean metrics, a triangle is degenerate if and only if its vertices are collinear. With our intuition of a degenerate triangle having “collinear vertices” extended to arbitrary metric spaces, we might expect that a metric space in which every triangle is degenerate must be “linear”. It might be reasonable to expect that any “linear” metric space is isometric to a subset of R with the usual metric. When classifying all metric spaces that have only degenerate triangles, we find that there are such metric spaces other than (isometric images of) subspaces of R. These other spaces, however, all have precisely four points and all are of the same form. In the final section, we illustrate that the usual topology on R can not be generated by any metric in which all triangles are degenerate. A metric space (M,ρ) is a set of points M with a metric, or distance function, ρ : M ×M −→ [0,∞) that satisfies some natural properties we expect of distances:

Triangle inequalities in path metric spaces
We study side-lengths of triangles in path metric spaces. We prove that unless such a space X is bounded, or quasi-isometric to R+ or to R , every triple of real numbers satisfying the strict triangle inequalities, is realized by the side-lengths of a triangle in X . We construct an example of a complete path metric space quasi-isometric to R2 for which every degenerate triangle has one side wh...
متن کاملThe Existence Theorem for Contractive Mappings on $wt$-distance in $b$-metric Spaces Endowed with a Graph and its Application
In this paper, we study the existence and uniqueness of fixed points for mappings with respect to a $wt$-distance in $b$-metric spaces endowed with a graph. Our results are significant, since we replace the condition of continuity of mapping with the condition of orbitally $G$-continuity of mapping and we consider $b$-metric spaces with graph instead of $b$-metric spaces, under which can be gen...
متن کاملFixed Point Theorems for semi $lambda$-subadmissible Contractions in b-Metric spaces
Here, a new certain class of contractive mappings in the b-metric spaces is introduced. Some fixed point theorems are proved which generalize and modify the recent results in the literature. As an application, some results in the b-metric spaces endowed with a partial ordered are proved.
متن کاملCoupled fixed point on ordered cone metric spaces with application in integral equations
Our theorems are on ordered cone metric spaces which are not necessarily normal. In the end, we describe the application of the main results in the integral equation.Although Du in [W. S. Du, A note on cone metric fixed point theory and its equivalence, Nonlinear Analysis, 72(2010) 2259-2261.], showed that the fixed point results in the setting of cone...
متن کاملCommon fixed points of f-weak contractions in cone metric spaces
Recently, Choudhury and Metiya [Fixed points of weak contractions in cone metric spaces, Nonlinear Analysis 72 (2010) 1589-1593] proved some fixed point theorems for weak contractions in cone metric spaces. Weak contractions are generalizations of the Banach's contraction mapping, which have been studied by several authors. In this paper, we introduce the notion of $f$-weak contractions and als...
